Dr. Ulate obtained his professional titles in the main university in Costa Rica. He carried out their clinical practices in the best Costa Rican hospitals and his residence program in the biggest and most important hospital in Costa Rica, the Hospital Mexico.
He has worked as Ophthalmologist in the Services of Ophthalmology of the main Hospitals of Costa Rica; Hospital Mexico, Hospital San Juan de Dios, in the Hospital Enrique Baltodano Briceño (Liberia), in the Clínica Oftalmológica de la CCSS (Social Security of Costa Rica) and in the private practice in the Centro Oftalmológico Guanacaste and in the Hospital Clínica Bíblica.
He is active member of the Asociación Costarricense de Oftalmología, of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Wide experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, especially in the field of the refractive surgeries, cataract surgeries and implant of intraocular lens.
Dr. Ulate completed two years of postgraduate studies (subspecialty) in Toronto, Canada, at the Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto LASER Center, which allowed him to gain extensive experience in the most advanced treatment of diseases of the cornea and anterior segment, especially in corneal transplants and management of complicated anterior segment eye surgeries.
During his subspecialty he trained and obtained the certification for the implant of artificial corneas (Boston Keratoprosthesis) in Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Member: Cornea Society, Pan American Association of Ophthalmology, Latin American Cataract and Refractive Surgery Society, Canadian Ophthalmology Society.
Advanced training and experience … and especially in cornea transplant surgery, with emphasis on partial cornea transplants and implants of artificial corneas.
